With 33,000 students, Griffith University, Brisbane is one of the largest universities in Queensland. It has 46 schools and departments, divided into ten study areas: Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and IT, Health, Law and Criminology, Music, Natural and Built Environment, Science and Visual and Creative Arts. Moreover, there are other independent academy centers, colleges and institutes. The faculty has made it an on-going goal to always improve the quality of education, to increase the students' performance. But also free-time activities are worthwhile. Some examples are: Dance, yoga, different sport courses, day trips and excursions (to Moreton Island or a surf weekend, among others).

Griffith University, Brisbane has five campuses in three cities across the Brisbane-Gold Coast corridor. The Gold Coast campus is a dynamic, modern campus in a native bushland setting. However, this campus is the largest-growing campuses in Australia. Spread over 56 hectares, Logan campus lies in the heart of Queensland's third largest city. The campus is a five minute drive to major shopping complexes. Mount Gravatt Campus is Queensland's major supplier of registered primary and secondary school teachers. Brisbane's center is only 10 kilometers away. Next to this campus, in the middle of bushland, but also not far from downtown, lies Nathan campus, 175 hectares in size. The fifth is the South Bank campus, that was originally established for the world Expo in 1988. Lectures are given in the College of Art or conservatory. On this campus you will find Cafes, Promenades, Museums, an art gallery and all sorts of art viewings. People come here sometimes to converse of just to simply relax.

Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland in northeastern Australia and with 1.7 million inhabitants the third largest city oft he continent. Because of the subtropical coastal climate with warm and muggy summers and mild and dry winters, the region is also called “Sunny State”; air humidity is extremely high from November to April. Especially Brisbane´s surroundings are always worth a trip: Surfers Paradise, Fraser Island or sapphire blue Moreton Bay with its sandy beaches are popular and beautiful destinations. There is always something to do in terms of culture and sports, and while you take a walk in the city centre´s cafés, live music will draw your attention. The mixture of city life and nature makes Brisbane a fascinating destination for every traveler.

Description:

The semester program at Griffith University enables international students to have up to two "free" selection semesters to enroll into any regular Bachelors and Masters university credit course.

The desired courses are to be listed in the initial application, and need to be courses offered at Griffith University. Normally, the student receives, along with the acceptance notice, a confirmation of the desired courses.

Normally, students at Griffith University take four to six courses during a study abroad semester.

Tuition and Fees

Requirements:

Applicants to Griffith University's semester program are required to have completed high school, or equivalent, and have satisfactory English language knowledge.

This can be demonstrated through a standardized TOEFL or an IELTS examination. Another option is the DAAD Language Test.

Accomodation of the Griffith University

Campus apartments

Students can find accomodation at six headquarters at the Griffith University Colleges. Five of these headquarters are on Nathan Campus, and one at Mt Gravatt Campus. At Logan, Gold Coast and Southbank, there is at the moment no accomodation directly on campus.

On campus, there are three different accomodation options.

With the Catered Single Rooms, the student receives a room with shared lounge and bathroom. Three meals per day are included with this type of accomodation.

A$ 330 one-time maintenance charge

With the Flat Style Self Catered Rooms, the student can receive a fully-furnished apartment, in which four to eight students live together. Here, one receives their own bedroom, kitchen, a bathroom, and the lounge room is only shared. Meals will need to be organized on one's own.

A$ 102 to A$ 108 rent per week, depending on amount of people living in the apartment

An alternative for postgraduate-students, there are the postgraduate flat style self catered rooms. Here the student receives a fully-furnished apartment for up to four people. Each has their own bedroom, kitchen, Bathroom, and the lounge is shared. Meals will need to be organized by the student.

Griffith University, Brisbane does not have accomodation outside of the campus, but offers an "Off-Campus Accommodation Service", where the student can receive further assistance.

Of course, it may be that this type of housing may be more expensive than accomodation at a guest family, for example. One should also inform one's self about any hidden costs such as deposits, additional electricity costs, and acquaint one's self with the rent agreements.

Whoever is interested in other accomodation should schedule a visit to the city with plenty of time before the beginning of the semester, for availability purposes.

Apartment Information

Accommodation with a host family is ideal for those who would like to experience Australian lifestyle first-hand and speak English constantly. Host families are normally very interested in supporting their students and do a lot to make sure that they feel comfortable. The guest is usually accepted as a part of the family, has his or her own room, and eats with the family.

Accommodation with a guest family is offered at the Nathan, Mt Gravatt and Southbank.
