Location of the RMIT University
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology has three campuses: City campus, Bundoora Campus, and the Brunswick campus. The main campus is in the center of Melbourne, and fits in well among LaTrobe, Elizabeth, Queensberry and Russell Street. Students will incorporate their studies with the surrounding life nicely. Bundoora campus lies 18 kilometers northeast of Melbourne, and is a campus situated in a more peaceful area, in a nature setting. Plenty Road splits it apart into East and West, and next to the state-of-the-art technology, offered to students to make their academic studies more enjoyable, there are new and modern work-out facilities. Only five kilometers from the city center and five minutes from the popular Sydney Road, one will find many stores and markets, among which the Brunswick Campus is located. This campus has won awards for its splendid architecture and surroundings. All three campuses have excellent public transportation. Additionally, there are other branches of the university: Point Cook, 20 kilometers outside of the city, and the RMIT Hamilton ranch, where Nursing is taught.

City Profile Melbourne

Melbourne has 3.4 million inhabitants and lies in the state of Victoria in southeastern Australia on the Indian Ocean. It is Australia´s second largest city which stretches around Port Philip Bay and has recently been elected as the most livable city in the world. The sea forms the Southern and Eastern borders of the State of Victoria; it has 1.600 kilometers of coastline and tropical climate. Temperatures are convenient; the warmest month is February with 20 °C. Those who love swimming and sunbathing will have as much fun as those who rather want to visit cultural destinations. By the way, downtown Melbourne is concentrated on one square kilometer. After that, you should try one of the 3.500 restaurants since Melbourne is considered as the “City of Food” in Australia. Finally, you can enjoy the city´s nightlife and visit a nightclub, bar or pub.

Accomodation of the RMIT University
Private apartment / hotel

RMIT is directly in Melbourne's city center, and therefore does not have student accommodation directly on campus. Students must organize accommodation in an apartment on their own. The Housing Advisory Service at the university offers, however, assistance in the search for student accommodation.
Of course, it may be that this type of housing may be more expensive than living with a host family or a student dormitory. One should also inform one's self about any hidden costs such as deposits, additional electricity costs, and acquaint one's self with the rent agreements.

Prices: (approximately)
Around A$ 120 to A$ 250 per week for an apartment with one room.
Around A$ 170 to A$ 350 per week for an apartment with two rooms.
Around A$ 80 to A$ 150 per week, per person, depending on the number of tenants.

Apartment Information

Homestay

Accommodation with a host family (Homestay) is ideal for those who would like to experience Australian lifestyle first-hand and speak English constantly. Host families are normally very interested in supporting their students and do a lot to make sure that they feel comfortable. The guest is usually accepted as a part of the family, has his or her own room, and eats with the family.

If you are interested in residing with an Australian family, you should familiarize yourself with certain living and house and rules

Price:
A$ 170 to A$ 250 per week, including meals

Homestay Information

Other

Another accommodation possibility is living in a Hostel.

Students can acquire a furnished room, where the bathroom and lounge are both shared. Normally there is also a computer room. Some hostels have meals included in the rent. Normally, a hostel can be rented for three, six, or 12 months.

Price:
A$ 150 to A$ 300 per week

Accommodation Information
