Saint Mary´s University Halifax is one of Canada´s most prestigious business schools, and the Faculty of Science is very well-known for its research department. Furthermore, there is the innovative Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. More than 1,000 international students are currently enrolled in the university courses which is the reason for the university's very multicultural atmosphere. Students can get involved in one or more of the 50 student organizations, through Saint Mary´s Students´ Association (SMUSA). The options range from technology to surfing. The International Center offers support, especially for new foreign students. The student-teacher ratio is 21:1, which makes personal relationships and individual instruction possible. Location of the Saint Marys University
Saint Mary´s University´s campus is situated in the southern part of Halifax. From here it is only a few minutes´ walk to Halifax's city center, or to the Point-Pleasant Park at the sea. On campus, students will find university accommodation, the Patrick Power Library, the Atlantic Center of Support for Disabled Students, an art gallery, and other facilities which make student life on campus easier and more convenient. Halifax is considered as one of the safest cities in Northern America. The capital of the province Nova Scotia is situated on Canada´s East Coast, has about 360 000 inhabitants and one of the world´s biggest harbors. Short trips to the USA are very recommendable since the border of the United States is rather near. The beautiful surroundings, friendly people and several festivals attract visitors from all over the world throughout the whole year. Besides, there are many music and culture events, several historic sites, galleries and museums such as the Museum of National History. Nightlife is very lively as well: There is something for everyone among the bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Another highlight is Dartmouth lying on the east side of Halifax harbor. It is also known as the “City of Lakes” for 23 lakes within the city borders offer possibilities for canoeing, windsurfing, swimming and a lot more. Apart from that, Halifax has seven beaches at the sea, but average temperatures in summer are only 16-24 °C. Winters are relatively mild in return – best conditions for fans of aquatic sports. Description: International students, through the "Visiting Student" programs, have the opportunity to study up to two semesters at Saint Marys University. They have the option to choose their courses freely from both Bachelors and Masters programs.
The course choice from Germany is about six weeks before the beginning of the term. SMU Semester Program Fees: Tuition:

Semester program students at SMU normally choose three to four courses per semester. There is, however the option to take more. Tuition and Fees Requirements: Students interested in the "Visiting Students" program at SMU are required to have completed high school or equivalent, and have studied, at least one year at a university or upper education institution. There is no language examination requirement.

Accomodation of the Saint Marys University
Campus dorms There are two student dormitories around the SMU campus area: Loyola Residence, and Vanier House Residence.
Loyola has, in its' 22-story complex, space to fit up to 456 students. On every floor, there are four single rooms and one double room, where the double rooms have private bathrooms. The rooms are all fully-furnished, and there is a lounge area that is shared among the students on the floor. The meal plan is included in the rent and different types of plans can be chosen.
In the Vanier Residence, up to 254 students can reside in four buildings. Available for rent are single as well as double rooms. The fully-furnished rooms are each placed together in suites, so that in each suite, there are two single and two double rooms. There is a lounge on each floor, and a private bathroom. The meal plan at the Vanier House Residence is included in the rent, and there are different types of plans that can be chosen.

CDN$ 3,650 to CDN$ 4,120 per semester for a single room, depending on type of meal plan.

Campus apartments At the Edmund Rice Residence, apartments are available to rent for four students per apartment. Up to 380 students can reside here.
Every apartment has two bedrooms, for two people per room. All apartments are fully-furnished and have a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. Meals are nevertheless organized on one's own.

Private apartment / hotel Private apartment accommodation during study at Saint Marys University must be sought out on one's own. Of course, it may be that this type of housing may be more expensive than accommodation at the student dormitories. One should also inform one's self about any hidden costs such as deposits, additional electricity costs, and acquaint one's self with the rent agreements.
