Description of the Thompson Rivers University
Thompson Rivers University offers more than 100 bachelor programs, diplomas and certificates in the areas of Business Management, Computing Science, Tourism Management, Science and Environmental Science, Health Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and English Language and Culture. Language courses are also offered. Each student is assigned individual attention within the relatively small campus community. They receive assistance with settling in and with other issues, but leisure activities and regular trips are also arranged. This allows international students to get to know Canadian culture. Further activities are, for example, snowboarding, skiing, Christmas parties, horseback riding, hockey, wine-tastings.

Location of the Thompson Rivers University
The city´s friendly atmosphere and one-of-a-kind nature make Kamloops an ideal place for international students. Thompson Rivers University's 93 hectare campus is a state-of-the-art institution, situated only a few minutes from downtown. Important buildings are the Campus Activity Center (CAC), where students can relax, the Trades and Technology Complex, where technological skills are taught, the Canada Games Aquatic Center with an Olympia-sized pool, the Hillside Stadium with two soccer and rugby fields, the Science Building where scientific lessons are given, a gym where you can work out at, the Food Training Center where you can eat, the library, with more than 100 000 books, the Old Main Building, with classrooms and offices, the Clock Tower Building, and the new International Building, in the heart of the campus, which was opened in 2005 and incorporates a big computer and language lab, auditoriums, classrooms, a student lounge with wireless Internet access. In addition, the university has smaller campuses in Burnaby and Williams Lake.

City Profile Kamloops
Kamloops has 83 000 inhabitants and is thus a relatively small city which is situated 365 kilometers northwest of Vancouver in British Columbia. But it still has a lot to offer, for example the beautiful landscape, low cost of living and a very convenient climate: In summer, the temperatures rise to an average of 27 °C. Even though the city is not very big, there is an art gallery, a professional theatre company, a symphony orchestra, two museums and many cultural events such as the Wildlights Festival or the International Film Festival. Besides, the city has 84 parks – an incredibly big number. Much importance is attached to sport and sport events; you can do almost everything here, from golf to skiing.

International students are also offered, through the Study Abroad Semester-Program, the opportunity to study up to two semesters at the Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Students can choose their own courses from the university's Bachelor programs.

The Study Abroad semester programs allow students to take four or five courses per semester.

Applicants to the Semester Program at TRU are required to have completed high school or equivalent. They must additionally have a good command of English.

This can be demonstrated through a TOEFL or IELTS examination.

Accomodation of the Thompson Rivers University
Campus dorms

McGill Dormitory, which lies directly on campus, has fully-furnished single bedrooms in three different categories (Regular/Upgrade/Deluxe). All rooms have a bed, table, closet, a small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, and a cooking stove. Higher upgraded rooms have double-beds and a large refrigerator. In addition, there is a lounge area, large T.V. room, pool room, and a washing and drying room.

Residence Information

Campus apartments

The TRU Residence & Conference Center can house a large quantity of students into one to four-bedroom apartments.

All of the apartments are furnished in a modern fashion, are comfortable, and
climate-controlled. There are bathrooms and kitchens in each apartment, and in the four-bedroom apartments, there are two bathrooms. Every tenant receives a separate bedroom with a large double-bed. Internet and cable connections are available.

CDN$ 4,900 to CDN$ 5,700 for a student year, depending on type of room

CDN$ 2,450 to CDN$ 2,850 per semester, depending on type of room

Upper College Heights is not directly located on campus, but is only a foot-walk away.

At Upper College Heights, apartments are available for four people. Each tenant receives their own fully-furnished room. Each apartment has a shared kitchen and bathroom. Telephone access, satellite T.V., and Internet are also available.

CDN$ 1,600 per semester (+ CDN$ 100 for a room with a balcony)

Accommodation with a host family is ideal for those who would like to experience Canadian lifestyle first-hand and speak English constantly. Host families are normally very interested in supporting their students and do a lot to make sure that they feel comfortable. The guest is usually accepted as a part of the family, has his or her own room, and eats with the family.
If you are interested in residing with an Canadian family, you should familiarize yourself with certain living and house and rules.

TRU has many years experience in the host family network.
