Description of the Vancouver Island University

City Profile Nanaimo
Nanaimo has 78,000 inhabitants and is the second largest city in British Columbia on the Canadian Pacific Vancouver Island. The climate is very mild for Canadian conditions: The daily average temperature is 9,6 °C, and temperatures rarely fall below freezing point. Nanaimo is an ideal place for working and living, surrounded by the perhaps most beautiful wilderness in the world. There are several opportunities for diving, golfing, biking or canoeing. People can also observe nature, visit the harbor or do something cultural. Therefore, many galleries and museums can be visited such as the Nanaimo District Museum or the Nanaimo Art Gallery, but there are also three shopping districts that are all in close proximity of each other and can be reached on foot: The Arts District, Old City Quarter and the Waterfront. Many events take place in the city as well, ranging from performances of the Vancouver Island Symphony to the Bodypainting Competition in a nightclub.
