Description of the American College

More Photos
The American College in Dublin was established as a branch of Lynn University (Florida, USA). Its focus is placed on a small amount of courses of study, through which a Bachelors or Graduate degree can be obtained. Through the co-operation with the American University, it is possible to complete a study-abroad semester in the subjects of International Business and Hospitality Management. In this manner, the combination of Irish and American education can be properly offered. Particularly, the English Language Department is one of the most recognized and well-known in Ireland, and concentrates on placing students at a suitable learning level that reflects their knowledge and skill. The room layout and furnishing is state of the art. Through the small amount of enrolled students, individual attention is given and a family-atmosphere is achieved. International students will be sincerely welcome and supported by local support services.

Location of the American College
The American College lies conveniently central at Merrion Square, in the heart of Dublin. Three beautifully restored Georgian houses, including the former birthplace and home of Oscar Wilde, serve as the university buildings. Additional space is located in Lower Mount Street, 30 meters from the main campus. To get to Grafton street, Dublin's largest Shopping point, and to the Temple Bar District, with its pubs and modern bars, it is only a ten-minute walk way. The place of the Irish Prime minister, as well as the National Art Gallery also lie close to the campus.

City Profile Dublin
Dublin has about 1,2 Million inhabitants - which is almost 40 % of the Irish population – and is thus the Republic of Ireland´s biggest city. Where Liffey River and O´Connell Street, Grafton Street and Harcourt Street meet lies the beautiful city centre with many bridges, shops and St. Stephens Green; you can relax here after an exhausting shopping or sightseeing trip. Dublin´s climate is maritime which means that winters are mild and summers rather cool. Normally, extreme temperatures do not occur. Visitors who are interested in culture have the opportunity to choose between several museums, theatres and galleries, such as the National Museum or the Abbey Theatre. Nightlife is also very exciting: Dublin offers many nightclubs, pubs and restaurants; especially the Temple Bar Quarter can be recommended.

Accommodation with a host family is ideal for those who would like to experience Irish lifestyle first-hand and speak English constantly. Host families are normally very interested in supporting their students and do a lot to make sure that they feel comfortable.
