Hamilton is situated on the New Zealand´s northern island and is the administrative centre of the Waikato region. The 130.000 inhabitants are multicultural with the majority coming originally from Europe. Auckland, a municipal area on the northern island with more than 1,3 million inhabitants, lies only 129 kilometers away. In the vicinity, you can find beaches suitable for surfing, large woods, caves and lakes such as Lake Karapiro or thermal springs, for instance in Rotorua. Thus, the choices for spare time activities are almost unlimited. You can even go skiing in the northern island´s mountains. In addition, sports like motorsports, cricket or rugby are very popular.
